Just Kids

During the summer of Coltrane's death, the summer of love and riots, a chance encounter in Brooklyn led two young people onto the path of bohemian life and art. Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe, both twenty years old, would become a poet and a photographer, respectively. In this time of intense creativity, the worlds of poetry, rock and roll, and sex collide. The couple socializes with Andy Warhol's circle, joins a community of artists and colorful misfits at the Chelsea Hotel, and encounters Allen Ginsberg, Janis Joplin, Lou Reed... Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy, capturing an unforgettable snapshot of New York in the 1960s-1970s. With delicacy and emotion, Patti Smith traces the rise of two inseparable kids who infused their art with the same energy as their lives.
